1	2 Industrial design BFA capstone show reception 4:00 pm-5:30 pm 04/02/2018 Seniors in Rochester Institute of Technology’s industrial design (BFA) program will showcase their capstone projects during a three-day exhibition in University Gallery. The featured students will be present for a reception from 4-5:30 p.m. Monday, April 2, in the gallery, and all are welcome to join in celebrating their work. The exhibit is set to remain on view through April 4. Charles Arnold Lecture: Fazal Sheikh 6:30 pm-8:00 pm 04/02/2018 Fazal Sheikh — an artist who uses photographs to document people living in displaced and marginalized communities in the world — will deliver an open-to-all talk at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 2, in Carlson Auditorium (Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science, room 1125).	3 HP’s Nigro to receive award, deliver lecture 2:00 pm-4:00 pm 04/03/2018 Stephen Nigro, President of HP Inc.’s 3D printing business unit, will be on campus Tuesday, April 3, to accept the prestigious Melbert B. Cary Jr. Award from Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences (CAD). As part of a daylong visit to RIT, Nigro is scheduled to deliver an open-to-all lecture from 2-3 p.m. in Golisano Hall auditorium (room 1400). The presentation, which will focus on 3D printing’s role in the $12 trillion manufacturing market, is hosted by CAD’ School of Media Sciences. A reception with light refreshments will follow. The award is named in honor or Melbert B. Cary Jr., whose lifelong love and support of the graphic arts inspired others. CAD presents it to those who have driven the advancement of technology in graphic communications and related industries. Nigro will be joined by David Tucker, from the market development group in HP Inc.’s 3D printing business, for the public talk. Nigro’s day at RIT will also feature tours of CAD and the university’s 3D printing facilities. In his role at HP Inc., Nigro is responsible for bringing disruptive innovations to market, leveraging HP’s proven technology and 2D expertise to lead the 3D print market. He has more than 30 years of print expertise spanning business leadership, product and technical roles — all in driving the success of HP’s print business. Past Cary Award recipients include: • Charles Hull, co-founder and chief technology officer, 3D systems • Frank D. Steenburgh, former senior vice president for business growth, Production Systems Group at Xerox Corp. • Frank Romano, world-renowned printing expert and RIT professor emeritus • Lucien De Schamphelaere, founder of Xeikon and inventor of the first digital color press	4	5 Presentation by multidisciplinary artist Federico Solmi 4:30 pm-6:00 pm 04/05/2018 In connection with Federico Solmi’s upcoming exhibit at Rochester Contemporary Art Center (RoCo), the Italian-born, New York City-based artist will give a presentation at Rochester Institute of Technology. The lecture is open to the public and set for 4:30-6 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in Neblette Conference Room (Gannett Hall, room 1104). “The Good Samaritans” — a display of Solmi’s new artworks — will open April 6 and run through May 12 at RoCo. Photography and related media MFA thesis show 5:00 pm-7:00 pm 04/05/2018 Thesis candidates in Rochester Institute of Technology’s photography and related media (MFA) program are showcasing their end-of-study work from April 5-22 in William Harris Gallery. 8	9	10	11	12 Vignelli Legacy Lecture: Hugh Dubberly 4:45 pm-6:00 pm 04/12/2018 Design planner and educator Hugh Dubberly, who worked at Apple in the 1980s and 1990s, is being hosted by the Vignelli Center for Design Studies for a public lecture. Note the location change in comparison to the above poster.	13 ‘What We Do’ photojournalism exhibit 5:00 pm-8:00 pm 04/13/2018 The Rochester Institute of Technology’s student chapter of the National Press Photographers Association will present the 17th annual “What We Do” exhibition at Makers Gallery and Studio, 34 Elton St., Rochester. The exhibit is a showcase of work by 15 RIT photojournalism students that was honored in this year’s What We Do competition. An open-to-the-public opening reception is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 13, at the gallery. The multi-category contest is judged each year by a panel of RIT photojournalism alumni. This spring’s judges were Chloe Coleman (Washington Post photo editor), Seth Gitner (associate professor in the S.I. The one-hour classes are offered from noon-5 p.m. April 14 and 15 in Booth Hall, rooms 3633 and 3730. They are $30 for students and $50 for anyone else. All proceeds go toward RIT glass students traveling to the 47th annual Glass Art Society conference from May 16-19 in Murano, Italy. 22	23 Charles Arnold Lecture: Kristen Gresh 6:00 pm-7:30 pm 04/23/2018 Kristen Gresh — a curator, researcher, lecturer and award-winning author — will speak at Rochester Institute of Technology as part of the Charles Arnold Lecture Series, sponsored by the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences. She is the Estrellita and Yousuf Karsh Curator of Photographs at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.	24	25	26 Visual arts-all grades program capstone walkthrough 5:00 pm-7:00 pm 04/26/2018 The capstone material of students in Rochester Institute of Technology’s visual arts-all grades (MST) program will be on display during a public walkthrough event. The aspiring artist-teachers are set to exhibit their student teaching portfolios, visual journals and other collateral materials from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, in front of room 3560 of Booth Hall. Faculty will be on hand to answer questions about RIT’s one-year MST program and how to submit an application for the 2018-19 academic year.	27 Art and American Crafts MFA thesis exhibition 2 5:00 pm-7:00 pm 04/27/2018 The second of two spring shows exhibiting thesis work of School for American Crafts and and School of Art MFA candidates is set for April 27-May 12 in Bevier Gallery. The opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 27, in the gallery. Featured artists include Darren Adair (glass), Yagmur Akarsu (ceramics), Badreyah Almuqhawi (metals and jewelry design), Montaha Alqattan (fine arts studio), Fatmah Bamashmous (furniture design) and Jieun Yoon (glass).	28 Imagine RIT exhibit: Media Sciences Fair 10:00 am-5:00 pm 04/28/2018 The School of Media Sciences is hosting an exhibit at Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival that showcases recent projects in various areas completed within the school. The “Media Sciences Fair” will take place in Gannett Hall, room 1294, throughout Imagine RIT, scheduled for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 28. The displayed projects are set to include 3D scanning and immersive work with HP Sprout Pro, interactive print and smart textiles, mixed-reality publishing with Microsoft HoloLens, preferences in consumer packaging, visual eye-tracking for publishing, and limited-edition publication and print works. The exhibit will also have hands-on activities for visitors while students and faculty will lead live demonstrations. Imagine RIT exhibit: Smart Textiles 10:00 am-5:00 pm 04/28/2018 View projects and prototypes from a class titled Smart Textiles that explore imagery on fabric that is “smart,” interactive or dynamic during the Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival. The “Smart Textiles” exhibit will on view in Gannett Hall, room 1290, throughout the festival, set for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 28. The course is run by Shu Chang, the Melbert B. Cary Jr. Endowed Professor in the School of Media Sciences (SMS), Christine Heusner, SMS senior lecturer and graduate director, and Marla Schweppe, 3D digital design program chair. Students created objects by using a variety of inks with different attributes, such as glow-in-the-dark, photochromic and thermochromic. Festivalgoers can interact with articles that incorporate hybrid printing processes with different inks, 3D printing and assembling of basic electronics to stretch the boundaries of creativity in fabric work. Imagine RIT exhibit: Photo sciences capstone showcase 10:00 am-5:00 pm 04/28/2018 Experience projects completed by photographic sciences students at the program’s capstone walkthrough event during Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival. The photo sciences walkthrough will take place in the Ron Francis Lab (Gannett Hall, 2182) throughout the festival, which is scheduled for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 28. Exhibitors include School of Photographic Arts and Sciences assistant professor Bob Rose and the following students: Rhonda Kay, Ian Longton, Nicholas Mailhot, Nora Pfund, Paige Pham, Nina Roepke, Geoffrey Sasaki, Abigail Semler, Krit Upra and Steve Viggiano. Imagine RIT exhibit: School for American Crafts walkthrough 10:00 am-5:00 pm 04/28/2018 Projects completed by undergraduate and graduate students across all School for American Crafts (SAC) programs can be observed in multiple locations during the Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival. The 11th annual festival is slated to run from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 28, on the RIT campus. The SAC walkthrough event is a diverse showcase of the artistry of students of all grade levels in the disciplines of ceramics, furniture design, glass and metals and jewelry design. The work will be displayed in each program’s studio spaces, which are located on the second and third floors of Booth Hall.
