Students: meet with employers at Creative Industry Day

Portfolio reviews and professional networking opportunities will be in the air when Rochester Institute of Technology hosts its 13th Creative Industry Day from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. March 29 in Gordon Field House.

Creative Industry Day — open to RIT students and alumni — is sponsored by RIT’s Office of Career Services and Cooperative Education in collaboration with the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences (CAD), the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences and RIT Alumni Relations. The portfolio-based event is designed “for creatives by creatives” and is geared toward CAD students. read more

Exhibit: Space photography by astronaut Donald Pettit

Mind-blowing, large-format photographic prints by NASA astronaut Donald Pettit from the International Space Station are set to fill Rochester Institute of Technology’s University Gallery as “Portraits of a Planet: Photographer in Space” runs from March 19-April 28.

Pettit’s work provides stunning views of cities at night and planetary phenomena captured with time-lapse, long exposure and split-second timing.

The show’s reception is scheduled for 3-6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in the gallery. Opening remarks will be given by Pettit and School of Photographic Arts and Sciences alumnus Peter A. Blacksberg ’75. read more

Glass program to host German artist for talk

Anna Mlasowsky, an artist-in-residence at Sculpture Space in Utica, N.Y., is visiting Rochester Institute of Technology’s glass program for an artist talk. It is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, March 22, in Booth Hall, room 3634.

The entire RIT community is welcome to hear about Mlasowsky’s current work and practice.

Born in Germany, Mlasowsky uses emerging technologies and uncommon approaches to glass methodology to create experiment-driven sculptures, objects and video work influenced by glass’ material qualities. She has an international record of teaching, exhibiting and working in residence. read more

What’s Next for interior designers?

The design community is set to gather at Rochester Institute of Technology to discuss career paths, new industry products and designing for urban renewal in downtown Rochester.

RIT’s interior design program and the International Interior Design Association New York Chapter’s Rochester City Center are co-hosting “What’s Next?” from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, in University Gallery. The event invites RIT School of Design students and alumni, along with design professionals, to explore job opportunities in the interior design field and what its future holds. read more
