Gallery r’s February exhibit features sculpture, jewelry and fashion design work completed over three years by Rochester Institute of Technology alumna Dongyi Wu ‘16 (metals and jewelry design MFA).

After completing her undergraduate education at Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology in China, Wu enrolled in the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences at RIT’s metals and jewelry MFA program.

Since graduating, Wu has worked as a studio resident at RIT, completing new bodies of work and exhibiting internationally. Her first solo exhibition in the United States, “Wandering in Deep Deep Dreams,” is scheduled for Feb. 2-18 at Gallery r, 100 College Ave., Rochester. A reception will run 6-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at the gallery.

Wu’s work is not easy to categorize. It spans across sculpture, jewelry, fashion design and conceptual installation. Inspired by the subconscious, Wu is often influenced by psychology and surrealist art.

During their visit, Plakas and Debuque are scheduled to work with students to make work that will be exhibited in Bevier Gallery, conduct one-on-one critiques with students and deliver a public talk at 5 p.m. Feb. 15 in University Gallery. A small reception for the Bevier Gallery show is slated to take place following the lecture — the work will remain on view until March 10.

Plakookee’s work combines a mix of sculpture, installation and time-based and photographic imagery.
