My Shares

To manage your My Shares you need to go to our Request Portal

The My Shares service is available without VPN via https://cloud.cad.rit.edu/.

To actually get to your files and shares follow the instructions below.


Microsoft Windows

These instructions are for on campus, if you are off campus you must first connect to the VPN for this step to work.

  1. Click the Start menu, then select run, or select the search field in Windows 7
  2. Type \\CAD-files.rit.edu\my_shares
  3. If you are prompted for a username and password, input your RIT Computer account username and password
  4. If your username and password are not being accepted please trying using this format for your username: MAIN\username

If you are off campus use these instructions first

  1. Open VPN Client from the Start menu.
  2. Select the RIT-off-campus-VPN entry, and click the Connect button.
  3. When prompted, enter in your RIT username and password, and you should see a window confirming you are on the VPN.
  4. Follow the on-campus instructions listed on this page to connect to a share.

Apple OS X

These instructions are for on campus, if you are off campus you must first connect to the VPN for this step to work.

  1. From Finder, click the Go menu, and then select Connect to Server.
  2. Type smb://CAD-files.rit.edu/my_shares into the Server Address field
  3. If you are prompted for a username and password, input your RIT Computer account username and password
  4. If your username and password are not being accepted please trying using this format for your username: MAIN\username

If you are off campus use these instructions first

  1. Launch VPNClient from the Applications folder.
  2. Once the program has opened, select RIT-remote-VPN and click Connect.
  3. Enter your RIT username and password, and click OK.
  4. You should receive a connection successful message. Just click continue, and then hide or minimize the application. Do not quit it, or you will lose your secure connection and will have to do these steps again.
  5. Now connect to the server following the on-campus instructions.
