    Charles Arnold Lecture: Kristen Gresh

    Kristen Gresh — a curator, researcher, lecturer and award-winning author — will speak at Rochester Institute of Technology as part of the Charles Arnold Lecture Series, sponsored by the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences.

    Gresh is scheduled to deliver her lecture from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, April 23, in Carlson Auditorium (Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science, room 1125). She is the Estrellita and Yousuf Karsh Curator of Photographs at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

    Visual arts-all grades program capstone walkthrough

    The capstone material of students in Rochester Institute of Technology’s visual arts-all grades (MST) program will be on display during a public walkthrough event.

    The aspiring artist-teachers are set to exhibit their student teaching portfolios, visual journals and other collateral materials from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, in front of room 3560 of Booth Hall.

    Faculty will be on hand to answer questions about RIT’s one-year MST program and how to submit an application for the 2018-19 academic year.

    Art and American Crafts MFA thesis exhibition 2

    The second of two spring shows exhibiting thesis work of School for American Crafts and and School of Art MFA candidates is set for April 27-May 12 in Bevier Gallery. The opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 27, in the gallery.

    Featured artists include Darren Adair (glass), Yagmur Akarsu (ceramics), Badreyah Almuqhawi (metals and jewelry design), Montaha Alqattan (fine arts studio), Fatmah Bamashmous (furniture design) and Jieun Yoon (glass).

    Imagine RIT exhibit: Media Sciences Fair

    The School of Media Sciences is hosting an exhibit at Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival that showcases recent projects in various areas completed within the school.

    The “Media Sciences Fair” will take place in Gannett Hall, room 1294, throughout Imagine RIT, scheduled for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 28. 

    The displayed projects are set to include 3D scanning and immersive work with HP Sprout Pro, interactive print and smart textiles, mixed-reality publishing with Microsoft HoloLens, preferences in consumer packaging, visual eye-tracking for publishing, and limited-edition publication and print works.

    The exhibit will also have hands-on activities for visitors while students and faculty will lead live demonstrations.

    Imagine RIT exhibit: Smart Textiles

    View projects and prototypes from a class titled Smart Textiles that explore imagery on fabric that is “smart,” interactive or dynamic during the Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival. 

    The “Smart Textiles” exhibit will on view in Gannett Hall, room 1290, throughout the festival, set for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 28. The course is run by Shu Chang, the Melbert B. Cary Jr. Endowed Professor in the School of Media Sciences (SMS), Christine Heusner, SMS senior lecturer and graduate director, and Marla Schweppe, 3D digital design program chair.

    Students created objects by using a variety of inks with different attributes, such as glow-in-the-dark, photochromic and thermochromic. Festivalgoers can interact with articles that incorporate hybrid printing processes with different inks, 3D printing and assembling of basic electronics to stretch the boundaries of creativity in fabric work.

    Imagine RIT exhibit: Photo sciences capstone showcase

    Experience projects completed by photographic sciences students at the program’s capstone walkthrough event during Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival.

    The photo sciences walkthrough will take place in the Ron Francis Lab (Gannett Hall, 2182) throughout the festival, which is scheduled for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 28.

    Exhibitors include School of Photographic Arts and Sciences assistant professor Bob Rose and the following students: Rhonda Kay, Ian Longton, Nicholas Mailhot, Nora Pfund, Paige Pham, Nina Roepke, Geoffrey Sasaki, Abigail Semler, Krit Upra and Steve Viggiano. 

    Imagine RIT exhibit: School for American Crafts walkthrough

    Projects completed by undergraduate and graduate students across all School for American Crafts (SAC) programs can be observed in multiple locations during the Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival.

    The 11th annual festival is slated to run from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 28, on the RIT campus.

    The SAC walkthrough event is a diverse showcase of the artistry of students of all grade levels in the disciplines of ceramics, furniture design, glass and metals and jewelry design. The work will be displayed in each program’s studio spaces, which are located on the second and third floors of Booth Hall.
