Fundraiser invites public to make glass objects at RIT

    12:00 pm-5:00 pm
    03/04/2018

RIT’s glass program is hosting a make your own glass object fundraiser in which the public (18 years old and over) is invited to learn how to make a paperweight, marble or pendant in the hot shop or flame shop. Hands-on sessions are available from noon-5 p.m. on March 3 and 4, with each lasting an hour and costing $50. Proceeds support RIT glass students traveling to the annual Glass Art Society conference in May in Murano, Italy.

The sessions will take place in Booth Hall, rooms 3633 and 3730. For more information and registration, please email ritglassguild2017@gmail.com.

Fram Speaker Series: Google designer Jason Blythe

    3:00 pm-5:00 pm
    03/07/2018

College of Imaging Arts and Sciences at RIT alumnus Jason Blythe is scheduled to give a lecture from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday March 7 in University Gallery in the latest installment of the Fram Speaker Series.

Blythe is a user experience designer for Google who graduated from RIT with an MFA in computer graphics design (now visual communication design) in 2005. He also earned his BFA in graphic design from RIT in 2002.

For his presentation, Blythe will walk through the design process and complexity of the 2016 redesign of Google’s desktop search experience — a project he led and initiated. He is also slated to cover the research, data and design thinking that impacted the launch.

Prior to the lecture and reception, Blythe is slated to visit School of Design classes as part of his multi-day visit.

The Eugene H. Fram Chair in Critical Thinking was funded in 2011 by an anonymous RIT alumnus who donated $3 million to honor the former Warren McClure Research Professor of Marketing in the Saunders College of Business. The initiative allows RIT to support and grow applied critical thinking.
