You may even sleep with it. You know that it is THAT important!

But disaster is right around the corner!

You never know where it will happen or when it when it will strike.

Backup your data! In at least three places! On a USB, in the “Cloud’ Dropbox, Google Drive etc..

2012-2013 Academic Year Announcements

Free Software for Students:

  • Go Here and join the Autodesk Community to Access Free* student downloads http://students.autodesk.com/
  • *Free products are subject to the terms and conditions of the end-user license and services agreement that accompanies the software. The software is for personal use for education purposes and is not intended for classroom or lab use.

    SOFTWARE CHANGES:


    Operating System:

    • Macs — All computers are moving to Mac OS X Lion 10.7.x. Mountain Lion is on hold until further notice.
    • PCs — Windows 7 (no change)

    Popular Software Suites

    • Adobe Suite — All versions have been updated to the latest release of 6.0.
    • Apple Final Cut Pro — FCP 7 is no longer available and has been removed. FCP X is now the standard Apple Pro editing suite
    • AutoDesk Software — 2013 versions will be deployed to the labs for the start of Fall. Please make a request for the software to be applied to your computer.
    • Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac — Installed in all Mac labs. It is recommeneded that users of 2008 be updated at their earliest convenience. Please make an appointment via http://CAD-helpdesk.rit.edu

PaperCut and Checkout Portal (SPAS Students)

NO MORE WAITING AT THE CAGE TO PUT MONEY ON YOUR PAPERCUT ACCOUNT!!!! 😉

There is now a new link from the Checkout Portal; https://checkout.CAD.rit.edu/ that will allow you to put money on your Print Account (PaperCut) with your Visa or Mastercard. Simply go to the checkout portal link, noted above, click on MyPapercut then click on ADD MONEY. Simply follow the prompts from there.

You also now have quick and easy access to a running history of all of your PaperCut transactions and will receive email verification of every PaperCut Credit Card transaction you make. read more

CAD Web Services Upgrades

On March 2nd 2011 we upgraded our web server, along most of the system software being upgraded, PHP has been updated to PHP 5.3.x

Version 5.3 of PHP bring a slew of changes, most notably the addition of a Deprecated error message if your web application uses functions which are being phased out in future versions of PHP you will receive a warning message.

CAD Computer Services Outage on Monday (11/23)

CAD computer services will be unavailable this Monday (November 23) starting at 8:30 AM. The outage should conclude by the end of business Monday, but due to the nature of all outages, services availability may resume later than expected.

This outage will NOT affect your access to e-mail, STARS, SIS, or Oracle!

This outage is necessary to allow FMS to finish electrical upgrades in our 7A data center. Immediately following the outage computer services availability may be intermittent as we perform routine system and security updates. read more
